Hyperloop Transportation Technologies has confirmed that by 2020, the first phase of the world’s first commercial hyperloop will open in Abu Dhabi. This means 10 km out of the 150 km strech linking Abu Dhabi to Dubai will be completed in 2020. Described by Elon Musk as « a cross between a Concorde, a railgun and an air hockey table », the hyperloop aims to considerably reduce passengers’ travel time.
Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 12 pod-minutes instead of a hot hour and a half car ride through the desert? That is Hyperloop Transportation Technologies ambition. But how is this technological prowess possible? The low pressure inside the tunnels minimize friction and air resistance, the hyperloop pods containing passengers will travel like vacuums, thanks to the electro-magnetic levitation system, at a speed of 1,123km per hour, just beyond the speed of sound.
